Jan Peek Shares "Caring Crane" Decor with Peekskill

December 2, 2019

Peekskill, NY -- Clients and supporters of Caring for the Hungry and Homeless of Peekskill fold hundreds of origami “Caring Cranes” as gifts to the community-at-large. The cranes hang from two trees at the Field Library in Peekskill, and anyone can take one. The trees will be replenished with more cranes through Christmas.

Two Christmas trees at the Field Library in Peekskill are blooming with colorful tokens of appreciation from clients at Jan Peek House, and Caring for the Hungry and Homeless of Peekskill (CHHOP) friends.

To thank the community for its support, they have hand-folded hundreds of origami “Caring Cranes” ornaments that decorate trees in the adult and children’s sections at the library. Anyone is free to take a colorful blue, pink, purple or yellow crane. Clients will continue to fold cranes so each tree will stay replenished through Christmas.

“Our residents are using their hands and their hearts to give back to a community whose support has meant so much to helping them regain housing, self sufficiency and dignity,” said Cynthia Knox, CEO for CHHOP. “In addition to being a work of art, the cranes are truly a symbol of caring and peace.”
