Peekskill, NY -- Caring for the Hungry and Homeless of Peekskill is proud to announce the receipt of funding from two sources, totaling $50,000, which will help with predevelopment costs for a planned relocation of its Jan Peek House shelter and to its current program, Fred’s Pantry.

The first amount of $25,000 comes from State Assemblywoman Sandy Galef and has the dual purpose of being used toward predevelopment costs – the Jan Peek House has plans to move from its current location of 200 North Water Street to 851 Washington Street in Peekskill. Monies from this member item will also be put toward Fred’s Pantry, a choice food pantry that provides nutritious groceries to more than 400 people each week.

“There is no greater concern than making sure people have access to adequate housing and food, and this state money goes to an organization that provides these integral services that people cannot live without,” said Assemblywoman Galef. “I was so pleased that I was able to secure this funding for Caring for the Hungry and Homeless of Peekskill, and I know that they will use it effectively to help those in need.”

The second amount of $25,000 comes in the form of a low-interest loan from Community Capital New York (CCNY), an alternative nonprofit lender, based in Westchester County. The loan is for the express purpose of predevelopment costs associated with the new Washington Street site.

Kim Jacobs, President of Community Capital New York, stated, “We were very pleased to be able to assist this important project. Jan Peek House has been critical to meeting the needs of the homeless for many years and this new facility will help them continue their critical work.”

Cynthia B. Knox, the Executive Director of Caring for the Hungry and Homeless of Peekskill, had this to say about the funding, “There are so many costs associated with any real estate transaction. We want to ensure that we approach this move in a practical and pragmatic way, so the infusion of these funds couldn’t come at a better time.” She went on to say, “We are so grateful to Assemblywoman Galef for her continued and tireless support of our work.”

Ms. Knox also said that Caring for the Hungry and Homeless of Peekskill is committed to conducting an open and transparent process for the move. A community meeting is in the works, where all who are interested can learn more about the planned move.
