Statement Regarding Gov. Cuomo's Proposed FY Budget

January 23, 2020
Peekskill, NY: The following statement is provided by Cynthia Knox, Esq., the CEO of CHHOP:
We at Caring for the Hungry and Homeless of Peekskill (CHHOP) applaud the investments to help the homeless that New York State Governor Cuomo has set forth in his proposed fiscal year (FY) 2021 budget. Funding for the Homeless Housing and Assistance Program (HHAP) is slated to double, reaching $128 million. It will underwrite the capital construction of more supportive housing with services that not only offer shelter, but create stability while reducing the total number of homeless people and benefiting communities. The budget also includes the expansion of Affordable Housing and Support Services for Veterans, who deserve a grateful society’s support for their service.
Through HHAP, $5 million will be directed to the expansion of veterans’ housing services. Other measures include the designation of housing opportunities for veterans within affordable housing developments, and coordination between the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) so that veterans experiencing homelessness can be helped to attain permanent housing within 90 days.
Thank you, Governor Cuomo!
