Thanks Neighbors

Thank Neighbors

Twelve years ago, the Peekskill Brewery established itself down Water Street from CHHOP, and they’ve been good neighbors ever since. Keith Berardi, who owns the brewery with his wife and sister, is committed to making Peekskill great for all its residents, not just the newest or most prosperous arrivals.

“We’re a community place,” he says. “One hundred percent, taking care of neighbors is paramount in creating community.”

It’s a difficult time for the brewery, with Berardi scrambling to make sure his own employees, most of whom have been laid off, have enough to eat and can get by in this moment of crisis. But despite their own difficulties, the Peekskill Brewery, which has been supplying dinners to Jan Peek House residents on a monthly basis for years, is now going to change up the routine and in just a few days provide lunch.

We are grateful, especially when the struggle is affecting the restaurant industry so severely, that our deep relationship continues and that the Brewery, which has also contributed to the locally begun Million Gallon Challenge soup initiative, is remembering and helping us as well.

Further down Water Street, where it meets Hudson Street, is a beloved Peekskill restaurant, Taormina’s. We’ve long been the happy recipient of their largesse, and they continue to cook delicious food that brings a smile to our residents’ faces. In fact, on a recent night when another regular dinner contribution fell through, they quickly stepped in and whisked food over to the Jan Peek House. Thank you, Taormina!

“It takes a village…” Or maybe it takes a small city of good souls and businesses managed with heart to help us help others. Thank you so very much, one and all!
