Thriving Individuals + Thriving Families = Thriving Communities

On March 6, 2024, the Peekskill Herald published a news story explaining that CHHOP has secured interim leases for both Fred's Pantry and the Jan Peek House shelter. However, CHHOP's CEO, Cynthia Knox, described the Jan Peek extension as “purely an interim solution, so our services and programs go uninterrupted. Until a permanent solution is secured our work continues,” adding, “The only shelter in Northern Westchester needs to be future proofed.” Read the story here.

Westchester Magazine named CHHOP's CEO, Cynthia Knox, to the "2023 Women in Business" awards for the November/December issue. Congratulations to Cynthia and all the other winners this year. Check out the entry.

CHHOP congratulates our board secretary Ellen Bloom for being named to Crain's New York Business "2023 Notable Nonprofit Board Leaders," announced in October.  Bloom is also chair of our board's development committee.

In September 2023, CHHOP debuted a new video titled "Harvesting Hope," which discusses food and housing inequity in the lower Hudson Valley and shows some examples of what we are doing to help people navigate personal and economic challenges.  Click the image to view the video.

In June 2023, we were thrilled to share that our CEO, Cynthia Knox, was listed as a Notable LGBTQIA+ Leader by Crain's New York Business! The 74 honorees on Crain's list of leaders this year were pacesetters who are driving equity and inclusion across the business community. At CHHOP, we pride ourselves on providing a safe and inclusive environment for members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

"Cynthia Knox, chief executive office of Caring for the Hungry & Homeless of Peekskill (CHHOP), works to alleviate hunger and homelessness in that community and its surrounding areas. She increased organizational revenue by 227% and has developed programs in response to community needs, such as a collaborative rapid-rehousing program for domestic violence survivors. Knox also created the Hudson Valley Justice Center, and has co-created a strategic coalition of shelter and housing providers to address policy issues. In addition, Knox has served on the New York State Bar Association's Committee on Legal Aid and worked with The LOFT LGBTQ Community Center." -- Crain's New York Business, June 2023.
